The Balconies, The Living and The Benton Roark Band

Double Album Release Party featuring Vancouver's The Living and The Benton Roark Band, joined by Toronto's The Balconies.

The Balconies are a Toronto-based alt-pop group started in 2008 by Jacquie Neville and Liam Jaeger. Their influences include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Duran Duran, & New Order. The undeniable energy and artistic stage presence has been finely honed over the last seven years, touring relentlessly in Canada, the US, and Europe. Finally taking time to record their self-produced third release titled RHONDA, The Balconies worked closely with renowned producer/mixer Jon Drew (Arkells, Tokyo Police Club, Fucked Up) on mixing the album in Toronto.

After dazzling the crowd at last year's Vancouver International Jazz Festival, opening for Bif Naked, then taking a brief hiatus, symphonic rock powerhouse The Living is back with a fresh new EP featuring some of their strongest material to date. The new songs, recorded at Vancouver's legendary Armoury Studios, explore human connection in its many forms and the myriad sensations that result, both temporary and permanent. The Living's unusual string-trio-plus-rock-trio instrumentation allows the group to create a wide variety of compelling sonic textures, ranging from high-energy funk- and metal-esque jams to lush power ballads.

On the heels of recent projects such as Rollaway (“dirty-southern-gothic-rock-country-folk”, Discorder Magazine) and Arkora (a “mysterious landscape of instrumental timbre”, WholeNote Magazine) comes the latest from composer, songwriter, and bandleader Benton Roark: Deep in the Pocket, Still No Change by The Benton Roark Band. As his sixth release of original material, Deep in the Pocket was co-produced by Roark and Guillermo Subauste, recorded in Toronto, Vancouver, and Austin, TX, and features an all-star consortium of musicians from across the continent. An alt-country record with edges of jazz, rock, and rhythm n blues, this project marks a turn to extroverted song writing for Roark, comprising ten songs about cross country adventures, backwoods parties, ghost stories, lingering indiscretions, and magical automobiles. The BRB celebrates the release of Deep in the Pocket, Still No Change on December 1, 2016 at the Rickshaw Theatre with a full-band line-up including Roark, guitarist Adam Tryczynski, bassist Adam Jones, keyboardist Jen Lewin, vocalist Julia Pinckney Jones, drummer Brendan Krieg, trumpet player Jeremy Vint, trombonist Ellen Marple, and saxophonist Tim Sars.
